5 Dreamy (and Doable) Places to Elope in North Devon

Thinking of eloping in North Devon? Excellent choice. We’ve got dramatic coastlines, hidden valleys, and some surprisingly lovely venues that are perfect if you’re not keen on the big wedding thing.

Whether you want to get legally married with a view, sneak off somewhere quiet for some photos, or do the paperwork one day and have your “real” moment somewhere a bit more you, here are five great options that are scenic, simple, and not overly faffy.

1. Sandy Cove Hotel, Ilfracombe

If you’ve ever fancied getting married on a clifftop without needing hiking boots or a full production crew, this place ticks a lot of boxes. There’s a purpose-built outdoor ceremony space with big sea views, a private beach, and rooms on-site so you don’t have to go anywhere after.

Why it works: You get the sea, the scenery, and the simplicity all in one spot. Handy if you want a “wow” location but also want someone else to make the dinner.

2. Ocean Kave, Westward Ho!

Yes, it’s an actual cave (sort of). Ocean Kave is tucked into the cliffs and has a ceremony space looking straight out to sea. It’s private, peaceful, and has a kind of moody magic about it, especially on a misty day. There’s a barn too, if you fancy sitting down to eat afterwards.

Why it works: A bit different without being gimmicky. Feels like a proper escape but still has parking and loos. Win-win.

3. Tree Top Escape (Millbrook Estate), High Bickington

Hidden in the countryside, this place is made for tiny weddings. There’s a treehouse to stay in, a glass-fronted ceremony room overlooking a valley, and a team who’ve got the small-wedding thing down to a fine art.

Why it works: Feels a bit like eloping in a Scandi woodland Airbnb, but with someone else sorting the paperwork.

4. Little Silver House, High Bickington

Just down the road, Little Silver is a boutique country house with a few fancy shepherd’s huts, lush gardens, and a very chilled vibe. It’s smart but not showy, perfect if you’re after something relaxed but still a bit special.

Why it works: Feels like staying with your poshest, most welcoming friends, the ones who’ve converted their place into a wedding venue and actually know what they’re doing.

5. Valley of the Rocks, Lynton

One of the most dramatic spots in North Devon. All jagged cliffs, goats (yes, really), and big skies. It’s not a licensed venue, but if you’re planning a ceremony with a celebrant or just fancy wandering off after the legal bit and saying your own words somewhere wild, this place has real atmosphere.

Why it works: Feels like a little pocket of epicness. If you like the idea of reading your vows in the wind with the sea behind you, this might be your place.

A quick word on legality (just so you know)

In England, legal weddings have to be done at a licensed venue or a registry office with a registrar present. So, if you’re eyeing up a clifftop or a goat-filled valley, chances are you’ll need to do the legal bit separately. Plenty of couples do this, then have their own ceremony in the spot that actually means something to them. No confetti police, no scripts, no one asking you to “repeat after me” unless you want them to.

Planning something small and lovely?

If you’re thinking of ditching the long guest list and doing things your own way, I’d love to photograph it. Whether you’re having a cliffside ceremony, a treehouse escape, or a quick “I do” followed by a pub lunch, I’m here for it.
